The following videos were created and posted by individuals outside of a campaign. These videos were outside the scope of my study, but I find them interesting to watch.
This video, titled Yes We Can by will.i.am has been by far the most explosive video in the 2008 election. This video has been in the top handful of viral videos since it was released on Feb. 2nd, 2008.
This comedy video was one of the first 2008 election videos to reach a truly viral status. Released in the summer of 2007, it was quickly covered by news stations and commented on by a large number of blogs. This video plays on Obama’s youth and charisma, which is certainly a boon in a presidential election. The video spawned spin-offs for the other presidential candidates at the time.
This well-produced Star Wars spoof paints Hillary Clinton as Darth Vader, Bill Clinton as The Emperor and Barack Obama the leader of the rebellion.
Posted in March 2007, this video was one of the first viral videos of the 2008 presidential election cycle. Hillary Clinton is made to look like "Big Brother" in this 1984 Super Bowl Apple commercial mash-up.
This video was technically posted by a candidate. However, Gravel was out of the race early, and I find this video particularly hilarious. It is a good example of a lesser candidate attempting something bizarre to get attention.
